Teeth and Ear Betray the Wrong Corpse- A case from 1925
Fraudster Charles Schwartz decided to fake his own death in the destruction, by arson, of his Berkeley, California chemistry laboratory. With this in mind, he murdered evangelist Warren Gilbert Barbe and doctored the body to resemble his own.
He burned off part of Barbe's chest where he himself had a scar, punctured the different coloured eyeballs and extracted two teeth where he had lost two.
After the building exploded, investigators swiftly observed that "Schwartz's" corpse was different in a number of small ways. The corpse had a mole on the ear which the fraudulent chemist did not have, and it's missing teeth had obviously been very recently extracted.
Finding himself hunted for murder, Schwartz committed suicide in the Oakland boarding house where he was hiding.
