The Funerary Monument to Sir John Hawkwood
An innovative piece of art by Florentine Paolo Uccello, the first artist to come up with the concept of a funerary monument showing the deceased on his horse. He beat Donatello to it, albeit with a different medium.
"The Funerary Monument to Sir John Hawkwood" (who fought on behalf of Florence in 1436) imitates a sculpture, and adopts a low view point, so that the ledges seem real enough to touch.
